The Toucan Rescue Ranch (TRR) mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release Costa Rica wildlife. We works with a model that focuses on conservation, education, and research to ensure a brighter tomorrow for Costa Rica wildlife. We receive and care for confiscated, sick, and injured animals from government agencies. The Toucan Rescue Ranch works closely with the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica (MINAE) who brings injured and displaced wildlife to the center.
We are a rescue center and a sanctuary for wildlife which is different from a zoo. We receive wildlife because they were rescued from various incidents. Our goal is to rehabilitate them and reintroduce animals back into the wild. This is different from a zoo because all wildlife in our care comes from the wild. Any animal that is considered unfit for a successful life in the wild is given a forever home in our sanctuary.
As a nonprofit and foundation, we are fully funded by charitable donations! When you come to visit for an educational walk, you are supporting this mission. All visits are interactive (but hands-off) and offer various tours, which you can choose
We do NOT allow any handling or touching of any wildlife.
- As a rescue center, our first concern is the animals in our care. Being touched by the public can be stressful for the animal and in most cases dangerous for the person. This rule is especially important because the animals under our care are all rescued from various serious situations. At TRR we want to minimize human contact while providing each animal with the best environment possible. This is why only trained staff are allowed to touch or handle animals at TRR. So while we do not allow you to hold wildlife, we promise your experience will be special, personal, and very educational. Toucan Rescue Ranch supports the #StopAnimalSelfies movement and encourages visitors to learn ways to become an ethical wildlife tourist.
