A 10 day tour exploring the Central valley and the Caribbean coast is the perfect way of experiencing a little bit of everything. From cultural tours learning about the art of coffee to taking on some of Costa Rica’s famous white water rapids, all before ending on the beaches of the Caribbean coast!

Day 1
Arrival day

Travel time: 11 hour direct flight from London Gatwick

Arrive to San José, Costa Rica and transfer from airport to Naranjo.

Naranjo is perfect to start or end a program in Costa Rica. Set on a hilltop at 5,400 feet above sea level and surrounded by coffee fields and cloud forest it boasts amazing views to four volcanoes.

Day 2
Naranjo

Experience the town of Naranjo and try its delicious coffee. In the morning take a coffee tour and learn the craft of making a beautiful blend. Coffee tours usually take place on farms owned by locals.

Continue to the Municipal Market. Here you will be surrounded by fresh exotic vegetables and fruits. The market is also a great place to get lunch.

After lunch visit the local church ‘the Basilica of the Lady of Piedades’, rebuilt after several earthquakes in the 1940s.

Day 3
Naranjo – La Tigra

Travel time: 1 hour 30 minutes

After breakfast transfer to the small town of La Tigra located just 40 minutes from Arenal.

Check in to a luxury ecolodge and spend the day exploring your accommodation and its surroundings.

Day 4
La Tigra

La Tigra has many activities to keep everyone happy, from self-guided trails, farm tours, night hikes, rafting (Class II-III in the Balsa River), waterfall hikes and Costa Rican cooking classes amongst others tours.

Day 5
La Tigra - Sarapiqui

Travel time: 2 hour drive

Sarapiqui is well known for its rafting as well as being one of the main spots in Central America for bird watching.

Tubing or rafting on these rapids will be a top highlight on this trip.

If one adventure activity is not enough for the day, then experience Costa Rica from above. With a total of 12 cables and 17 platforms, 7 of which are built on trees between 60 and 90 feet high, your unique zip lining experience in this area will take you through canyons and several forests.

Day 6
Palmito tour

Take a cooking and culture tour. Learn how to make local dishes and learn more about the many different cultures present in Costa Rica.

Day 7
Sarapiqui – Puerto Viejo

After breakfast, drive to the beach town of Puerto Viejo located on the Caribbean Coast.

Located in the province of Limón, on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a beach lover’s paradise.

Here amidst the exotic flora and fauna, lies a vibrant seaside town with gorgeous, isolated beaches, crystal-clear water, and some of the most amazing surfing opportunities. This lovely town lies 34 miles south-east of Limón and 10.2 miles south of Cahuita. With its relaxed atmosphere and its own unique blend of Latino, Afro-Caribbean and Bribri indigenous cultures.

Day 8-9
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

Relax on the Caribbean coast and spend time as a family enjoying the beach, Caribbean style food and nightlife. Puerto Viejo has a wide variety of small international and local bars and restaurants. With its gold sandy beaches, tropical vibe and many interesting attractions nearby, such as the Cahuita National Park, Talamanca Indian Reserve and Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, visiting Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a great opportunity to experience the charms of Costa Rica.

Day 10
Puerto Viejo – San Jose

Travel time: 4 hour drive

Take a transfer back to San Jose and depart from Juan Santamaria International Airport.
