Day 1
Arrival day

Travel time: 11 hour direct flight from London Gatwick

Arrive to Liberia International airport direct via TUI and transfer to Miravalles, Alajuela (est. distance by car is 1 hour 36 mins).

Another option is to fly direct via BA to San Jose International Airport and fly in to Liberia from San Jose airport (est. flight time is 12 mins) and drive in to Miravalles.

Day 2
Miravalles

In the morning take a mountain bike tour around the area with a local tour guide or self-tour. Places to visit include several panoramic lookouts, two waterfalls, a cave, Miravalles volcano, and a naturally carbonated water spring that was historically visited by locals who sought its medicinal qualities. Riders can opt for different routes, ranging in distance from 8km to over 20km, without having to repeat single track segments.

In the afternoon enjoy a river tubing experience; tube down water rapids and canyons. All kinds of birds, monkeys and occasionally some larger mammals, will announce their presence. Lookout for the hot water spouts along the eastern rock walls.

Day 3
Miravalles - Monteverde

Travel time: 2 hours 40 mins drive

Before heading to Monteverde, visit Miravalles volcano and national park. This is the only active volcano in Costa Rica where you can walk around the crater and get a closer look of the smoke rising out the boiling vent.

Many visitors go on a 45 minute hike and explore the dry rainforest; the hike includes visiting 4 magnificent waterfalls and a chance to have a swim in the first waterfall.

In the afternoon carry on travelling to Monteverde.

Day 4
La Tigra

A visit to Monteverde is not complete without visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The breath taking biological reserve is famous for its cloud forests. The clouds are produced by humidity; the mist sits at an elevation of 1,600 meters above sea level. The moisture creates a blossoming eco system below, and is home to 2,500 species of plants and 1500 animal species. One of the most diverse and rich tropical cloud forests, it is home to both the resplendent Quetzal and the rare bell bird.

Visitors can enjoy the unique experience either by land (horse riding or trekking) or by air (canopy bridge or zip lining tour).

Day 5
Monteverde – Tamarindo

Tamarindo is located on the Pacific Coast in the province of Guanacaste; Playa Tamarindo is a popular destination for couples and families looking for the perfect holiday getaway due to a spectacular beach, a saltwater estuary, many surf spots and outstanding fishing.

Day 6-7
Tamarindo

Visitors can spend their last two days relaxing on the beach and enjoying the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean by taking part in popular activities in this area such as scuba diving, snorkelling and surfing.

Day 8
Head back to Liberia or San Jose airport
